Using Standard Beer Recipe Kits with Mr. BeerTM
The beer recipe kits from Coopers, Ironmaster and others are an economical way to use your Mr. Beer Brewing System and best of all, improve the quality of your beer.  These recipe kits have the advantage of being all malt, correctly formulated to specific beer styles, require no added sugars or other ingredients and best of all, you get two batches from a single can.  Even bottling is quicker and carbonation is a snap when you use our pre measured carbonation tablets.  Here's how simple it is:

THE RECIPE GIVEN ON THE LABEL IS FOR MAKING FIVE GALLONS.  WHEN USED WITH THE MR. BEER SYSTEM, ONE CAN WILL PRODUCE TWO BATCHES OF MODERATE STRENGTH BEER.  YOUR BEER CAN BE STRENGTHED BY THE ADDITION OF ¼ POUND OF DRY MALT.
DRY MALT EXTRACT 1 LB. $4.55
  1. After sanitizing all equipment as directed in the Mr. BeerTM instructions, fill the Mr. Beer fermenter with cold water up to the 4 quart mark on the back.
  2. Fill a stock pot with another 4 quarts of water and heat to a boil.  If you are using additional dry malt extract add it to the boiling water and stir until the liquid clears.  Store remaining malt is an air tight container.
  3. Turn off heat and add ½ of a can of a Coopers Recipe Kit (about 2 lbs.).  Stir until the syrup is completely dissolved.  Transfer the remaining syrup to a sanitized plastic storage container, cover with a tight seal and freeze until you are ready to brew another batch.
  4. Quickly chill the wort down to 140 degrees F by placing the stock pot into a sink of ice water.
  5. Pour chilled wort into keg.  Top off the keg to the 8.5 quart mark with cold water and stir with a sanitized spoon to mix evenly.
  6. If you use a hydrometer, take an original gravity reading now.
  7. Pitch ½ packet (1 1/8 teaspoons) of the brewer's yeast supplied with the recipe kit.  To save the remaining yeast for the next batch, fold over the top of the packet, tape or seal closed and keep in the freezer.
  8. Screw on the lid and place the fermenter in an area where the temperature will be 68 – 76 degrees F for 7 to 10 days.  Keeping your keg in the location and position where you will bottle your beer will prevent the sediment from being disturbed.  If you use a hydrometer, you can monitor the specific gravity to be sure it remains the same for two consecutive days
  9. When ready to bottle, sanitize twenty standard 12 oz. bottles and caps, or follow the Mr. Beer instructions for preparing their 1 liter plastic bottles.  When using 12 oz. bottles place one CarbTab into each bottle and fill the bottle from the keg spigot to about 1¼” from the rim.  The 1 liter plastic Mr. Beer bottles will require two CarbTabs.
  10. Cap the bottles and store at room temperature for at least two weeks to allow beer to carbonate.  Aging the beer for an additional 1 to 2 weeks will greatly improve its flavor and character.
