Food Grade Fermentation Pails

Using garbage cans to make mead wine is just that, garbage. Your primary fermenter must be made of food grade materials. The most important characteristic of a plastic fermenter is a very smooth interior. Any scratches will provide a hiding place for bacteria which will ruin your cider beverage. We recommend using plastic for primary fermentation only. Plastic pails provide the necessary head space to accommodate foaming and capacity to hold large volumes of solid fruit.
