Light, warm oak accentuates this wines spicy aroma with a soft and fruity palate of plums and red berries. Its rich and round flavor provides an elegant, lingering finish. The merlot grape is dark blue and used for both varietal wines and as a blending grape. The name is said to have come from the old French work for young blackbird, probably from the grape color. As a blending grape it pairs well with Cabernet Sauvignon and is a primary grape in Bordeaux wine. This flexibility has made merlot one of the world’s most planted grapes.
